I moved to city of Tracy 2 years back from bay area and like the place for it's small town feeling, nice paved roads, great parks/greenery, friendly people, less crowded shops/malls and everything else....I wrote this long time back and felt like posting it today to one of my blogs.
These are just some thoughts towards making our city better, creating more jobs and is culmination of different thoughts i came across working in different countries, states and places.
We can have a series of interviews with locals of tracy to find new innovative and creative ideas to improve jobs, economy and life in tracy and consolidate inputs and send it to city of tracy and tracy chamber of commerce.
It's ok to improve roads and rail tracks to commute to bay area but the best would be to generate healthy jobs and economy in our own town thereby taking it to greater heights.
Education

One great leader Swami Vivekananda once said "Education is the manifestation of perfection already present in man" and we need to nail that by doing multiple things in our town :
1) Start working on grants for a engineering college in town as the bay area and vicinity Dublin/pleasanton provides the best atmosphere/money/benefits in US for these jobs.
2) Start working on a medical school and related healthcare school like Physical therapist, Occupational therapist, Registered Nurse, speech therapist, pathologists. Why ? because our population is aging and we can attract elder care/senior care in our town to create more jobs locally in future with homegrown talent.
3) Start working on grants for management college to make sure that we give our young generation the best education locally.
Alternate Energy

1) Full feldged solar plants of higher mw range by attracting private companies, subsidizing land to them and mentioning them about sun hours, land availability in our town.
2) Solar Installers/Contract services, installation, commissioning and maintenance by tying up with VC's and PGE etc.

The Insourcing town for bay area's businesses for areas like "remote administration", phone/email/customer support etc.
1) By Having lower costs, start insourcing areas like web designing, telepresence administration management, call centers for customer service, email, phone and customer support etc.
2) Tie up with multiple companies to provide support services and turnkey projects in services like air conditioning/heating, IT/computer, landscape maintenance.
Organic Farming

Creating an campaign to portray Tracy as destination for Organic Farming.
1) Tie up with neighboring states/cities/counties to become preferred suppliers of organic farming.
2) Come up with grants and help in our town to grow organic produce to achieve greater results.
Entertainment Hub for Bay Area Enthusiasts

People with deep pocket need to spend and need places to go....proximity to bay area can be leveraged by providing more actvities/things to do in Tracy.
1) Having a theme park or a bigger attraction like that will make bay area enthusiasts to come to town and spend here.
2) Clubbing of entertainment with farm visit experience and wine tasting of our town followed by railroad history [Railroad museum]
3) Flying lessons, paragliding, skydiving or other adventure sports for attracting crowd and making tracy a tourist destination will create more jobs and prosper our economy.
Elder/Senior town

leveraging nice town, cheaper housing to attract more seniors to town.
1) Attract more Elders/Seniors by offering them incentives like programs to buy home.
2) Relocation support and elder care services addresses.
3) Creating more senior friendly places and programs to attract them in town.
I wish together we can improve tracy and bring it as a prosperous town on it's own so that it's not looked as just another Bay Area outskirt.
